Martial Arts Program

Sung’s Black Belt Academy and all schools within the Black Belt Academy Association (B.B.A.A) teach Taekwondo with influences pulling from Hapkido Chung Do Kwan, Tang So Do, and other martial arts. Our style of Taekwondo is Kukkiwon and follows the guidelines and standards of the World Taekwondo organization.

This style is full-contact, and focuses on the Taegeuk and Yudanja forms. Students will learn punching and kicking techniques, sparring, board breaking, one-step sparring, practical application, forms, and some basic Korean. Each colored belt rank will have specific testing requirements in order to be promoted to the next belt rank. Our Martial Arts Program is generally tailored for different age groups. Select each group to learn more or please or give our Trial Program a try!!

3. For Adults (18 and Up)

How the Program Works

Taekwondo is progressive in nature and nurtures your personal growth and development. Techniques taught in a belt rank are a progression from the previous belt held. The higher in belt you get, the more advanced the techniques become. Each belt rank has a lot to learn in order for students to test for their promotion. When an aspect of their belt is perfected, students will receive a specific colored tip based on the concept learned. There are 7 tips in total for each belt to learn. Once the minimum promotion rank requirements have been met, the Master Instructor will determine if the student is ready to test.

Tip Color Color Description
White Board Breaking (Speed, Power, and Focus)
Yellow Blocking Combinations (Stance, Balance, and Power)
Green Kicking Combinations (Speed, Power, and Control)
Blue Step-Sparring (Distance, Timing, Manners, and Technique)
Brown Form (Stance, Control, Power, and Energy)
Red Contact Sparring (Speed, Control, Combination)
Black Taekwondo Knowledge and Terminology

There are very specific belt rank requirements in every Taekwondo style that students must meet before promotion to the next rank. This chart defines specific time requirements of the Kukkiwon World Taekwondo style.

Our Minimum Term refers to the minimum amount of time that must be spent at a rank before promotion. This time frame is based on an average of 40 hours of training time per month. Total Training Time refers to the minimum amount of time invested in total to achieve a given rank.

In the United States, the average student reaches their first degree black belt in 3 years.
