School Affiliations

The following are organizations that Master Chan Sung’s Black Belt Academy are affiliated with and or have licenses and certifications with.

The Maryland State Department of Educations Office of Child Care (OCC) works to support and guide early education and child care so that every young child in Maryland has a strong foundation and will be ready for kindergarten.

The Office of Child Care’s Licensing Branch inspects and licenses all child care centers and family child care providers in the state and oversees Maryland’s subsidized child care program, the state’s Child Care Credentialing System, and Maryland EXCELS – the state’s quality rating and improvement system. The OCC maintains Regional Licensing Offices around Maryland, which are responsible for all child care licensing activities in their geographical areas.

The Maryland Department of Health’s Office of Child Care’s Licensing Branch oversees all child care licensing activities in Maryland, including:

  • Licensing and re-licensing child care facilities
  • Monitoring programs to make sure they follow child care regulations
  • Investigating complaints of any  reported violations of regulations or illegal child care
  • Taking enforcement action against programs that have serious violations of child care regulations
  • Helping child care programs meet the standards of all regulations.

Sung’s Black Belt Academy is an official MD state licensed Youth Camp, license number 18-YC-12623


The Black Belt Acadamy Association (B.B.A.A) is a Taekwondo organization founded in 1998 by Grand Master Kyu Jin Shim. When Master Shim opened the first Black Belt Academy (in Lexington Park) he put into effect his method of a modern approach to training with an emphasis on the values of traditional martial arts. This formula created the most successful school in the area.

Since it’s creation, other schools began branching out under the B.B.A.A with the mission to provide students of all ages with the highest level of martial arts instruction combined with an emphasis on the values of traditional martial arts.

Sung’s Black Belt Academy has formally been a member of the B.B.A.A since 2008 and assisted with B.B.A.A operations prior to.


Kukkiwon, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters, and home of the World Taekwondo Academy, is the official taekwondo governing organization established by the South Korean government. It is supervised by the International Sports Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.


World Taekwondo (WT) is the International Federation (IF) governing the sport of Taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC). WT leads the most inclusive and accessible combat sport, which combines the values of an ancient Asian heritage with the values of a global elite sport. Taekwondo evolves on a solid base, mixing the traditional and the modern. The values recognized by practitioners and partners are the strength of our sport. They are distilled from those found in our society: the search for pleasure, surpassing oneself, perseverance, moral and physical strength, and respect for others. Formerly known as World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).

USA Taekwondo (USAT) is the national governing body of Taekwondo for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and thus the United States’s official Member National Association of World Taekwondo. USAT has complete authority over all decisions regarding US national junior and senior team selections for World Taekwondo events, including the Summer Olympic Games Taekwondo competition event.
